Torque Converter

As the work continues on the cut out areas for the cats, I received my new, new torque converter yesterday. I say new, new because this the second one I got. The first TC was a 2200 stall speed unit. I had to exchange it because the cam requires at least 2500 stall. This TC is a modified Chevy Equinox unit. The cam that I have for the ls1 is a Comp Cam Mutha Thumpr series 601. This is about all the cam you can get and still drive it on the street with no problems. It should sound really mean, especially at idle. Of course the cam includes all the rest of the kit from Comp, roller lifters, magnum push rods, needle bearing roller rockers, dual valve springs and timing chain and gears.

talked to my engine builder

I haven't had time to do anything on the V8 Panel in about 3 weeks. With work and helping my daughter build a complete Star Wars Mos Eisley Cantina for Halloween, complete with a full scale bar and R2d2 she's a chip off the old block. Anyway, today I saw my buddy that is building my ls1. Let me say just one thing about this guy, too much is never enough. He is an engine builder that takes horse power to the limit. He has built many world record holders in drag boats. (You know those capsules that the drivers sit in on drag boats?.....he invented those.) Anyway, this thing is going to be a handful. Well over 500 hp with tons of torque. Now I'm concerned about the rear axle being able to hold it. The camaro is known for a weak 3rd member. I guess I'll run it till it blows and then put a 9 inch in it.

What an awesome project. I will be going head first into making my 06 a show and go custom next year and I am definitely considering a V8 swap. It is nice to see all of what goes into it before I decide or start my own.

Unless you have the experience, tools, persistence , knowledge, skills and finances to complete a project like this, I would caution you against it. It's not exactly a V8 swap, more like a complete re-design of every system on the car.

Lasater, I was going to have a professional custom shop do it. There is no way I could do it on my own. I was just saying that following your project is great for informational purposes.
