I took some time today and made a new album of the car. It's a collection of pictures you have all seen before but now they are all in the same place. Check it out It's titled HHR V8.

No Down Time

The car is at the paint shop, the engine is still at the engine builders, what's a boy to do? Work on other stuff, that's what. One of the things that I feel really set off the Moon Speedmasters are the knock-offs. When I bought my first set of these wheels from Moon in Santa Fe Springs, they had an HHR in their parking lot with these knock-offs made from the caps off Moon fuel tanks. I wanted to buy a set but they told me they were one-offs, prototypes that were NOT going into production......too much work. I convinced them into selling me some sand castings that they use for their tank caps and they were kind enough to show me how they made them. Here is the process that I used to make them. Quite a bit of lathe time is required to do these but I for one really like them.

I Love them! I have always had a soft spot for knock-offs... We used to call them spinners when I was a kid (way before spinner wheels were invented)

Back when I had my '65 Ford Fairlane I bought a set of knock off hub gizmos from JC Whitney. It was fairly complicated because there was a spacer that went between the wheel and the hub then you would bolt the wheel on like normal and then attach the spinner on the outside.

Naturally they were bright chrome and looked pretty sharp with my nicely painted black rims and even better when I turned up a set of thin chrome 'beauty rings' for the wheels.

When I finally could afford the shiny chrome wheels for the car they just didn't look as good against the black wheels.

They looked worse against the rather dull looking spoked aluminum wheels I got later so I went back to stock steel painted wheels.

Heads are In

Got my new heads in today and they were worth waiting for. They came from Texas Speed & Performance. New castings, full cnc, dual valve springs with titanium retainers. 2.06" valves, everything possible on Ls heads. Couple this with the Yella Terra roller rockers and I think it will scream. Taking them to the engine builder tonite!

Yes, if you don't count the rocker arms.
