It's even a challenge as it pertains to insurance. Regular auto insurance won't cover a car that is this highly modified. Companies like Grundy and Haggerty won't cover an HHR because they are too new, not collectible and not classics . I did however locate Heakack Classic Insurance in Florida. They are covering it as a Pro Street with an agreed value of $35k so I got that going for me.

More Exhaust Progress
Here are a couple of pics of how the exhaust is coming along. Didn't have very much room for the cutouts so this is about the only location. The system should be ready for jet coating by next week.
If you look at the drive shaft you will notice that it is not centered. This will be adjusted to center with the panhard bar. We just haven't got to that yet.

Incorrect, I have several highy modified Cars insured with agreed value...

Another forum that I frequent is the Ls1Tech Forum. I found a member there named Craig Gibson from the Cleveland area. He successfully put an Ls into a Kia Sorento. And he adapted the Ls ECM and engine harness to the Kia harness. Anybody that can do that is a Wizard in my book.
To make a long story short, Craig is helping me wire my car. Yea! So that means that I won't have a Camaro in HHR clothing. I will have an HHR with a V8 that keeps most of the factory goodies that came with the HHR.
He has all the info on both cars an is drawing the schematic as we speak. I told him he needs to draw this as if a monkey was going to do the wiring......that's not far from the truth.

The Sorento already had its engine mounted longitudinally so I escaped a massive undertaking that you have obviously mastered! Heck, I never leave ANYthing stock. I have a 4x4 Geo Metro, and am also very passionate about the often misunderstood Pontiac Fiero. I have a handful of them but my beloved one I slid a 3800 Supercharged Series 2 engine into. Also did a 4.9L Cadillac engine in my friends Fiero.
The Kia also has a fully boxed (thick!!) steel frame front to back like a truck, with some impressive cross members. So I had to work out engine mounts for it. The stock Kia transmission cross member almost lined up perfectly with the transfer case mount too. It is 1.5" back and 2" up from the stock Kia's bolt holes so I made an offset mount from plate steel to reach up and back. Headers were a bit tricky and had to modify a set of GTO headers to fit the Kia. The drivers side gave me problems with ANY other exhaust due to the steering shaft. I built the exhaust myself from the headers back from full 3" tubing to a Magnaflow X-Flow muffler. That exhaust note snaps necks everywhere it goes. I also dropped the radiator and moved it forward as well.

The above "update" video is quite old though. She was on the road until the transmission to transfer case adapter that I bought from Advance Adapters critically failed. They also refused to stand up to their warranty.
This actually happened in the video on the track above.
I don't want to derail this amazing thread with respect to Lasater. So I wont go plastering the other videos or pictures up here. I will throw a few specs down here though for those who might be curious...
2007 Kia Sorento (was a 3.8L v6)
6.0L Ly6 Engine from a 2009 Silverado 2500 HD (VVT but not DOD)
6 speed direct shift automatic 6L90e transmission (same donor as engine)
Ls3 intake manifold assembly w/ 90mm DBW throttle boddy
GTO exhaust manifolds - highly modified
Full dual 3" exhaust from the headers back
Magnaflow x-flow dual 3" in dual 3" out
GTO front sump oil pan - modified to clear front differential housing
Custom shortened drive shaft in rear, lengthened in front
All kinds of other crap I cant think of because Lasater's wiring is on my brain. LOL
Thank you again Lasater for all the respect and love for the Sorento. You don't get much of that for oddball engine swaps. I have gotten a lot of "waste of an engine comments" however 80% has been positive so far.

A friend of mine worked in customer service for like 6 years at Progressive insurance. She told me that i could get the Sorento covered for a specific monetary value to cover all the money i put in the swap. However i would have to keep reciepts of everything. Also have proof of the modifications like photos and such.
