Variable Valve Timing, Oil Computer, and more...
Hi all. First post, so be gentle...
I'm the happy owner of an 07 LT 2.4 and I've heard a lot about the VVT on these engines without getting any specifics. Mostly curious as to how it's implemented on this car.
Also squeezed out 21,000 kms on the oil change, following the computer's recommendation. Any thoughts on this? Seems like a very very long interval for an oil change. Also curious as to how the computer arrives at it's recommendations.
I've been getting fantastic gas mileage out of my HHR, some days as good as 6.6litres per 100 km with a tail wind. Noticed something weird tho... lowering the rear windows, and rear windows only, creates a sever buffeting effect. Any one experience similar?
Just had the recall re the roof liner done as well. Very happy so far.
Cheers!

A couple threads on the oil question. There are more but need to do a search for them

The buffeting effect comes free of charge on all HHRs

Yes It does sound like you are a smmoth efficient driver looking to get great mileage at 6.6lites/100km =35.63 MPG. I will clock 8000 miles on my sS today or tomorrow and I still have 23% engine oil life left. That come out to an estimate 16623km before my oil life is zero or 10400 miles. I have an SS so my interval is probably shorter than yours because of the turbo. My 200 s-10 has had oil changes around 24000km or more...lol. And it is still kicking just fine after 200,000km.
It is possible to get 6liter/100km if you really try hard (manual helps) but it can be done in the auto.
Enjoy your HHR

Nice!
Thanks for all the info. The oil computer article was particularly interesting. Definitely a neat technology.
Gotta love them algorithms.
Yes, smooth and steady means less gas. Been working on extending stretches between refuelling, given that my commute averages 1.5 hours each way, mostly highway. Amazing what small changes in your driving can make in your pocketbook. There's also long, steep hills for the first (last going the other way) 30 minutes, which certainly compromises fuel efficiency.
Going downhill I shift into neutral and going uphill I'm not afraid to let the car slow some. How much depends on whether or not there's someone behind me. :-) I try to keep RPMs below 3300 going uphill, less depending on the grade.
CANNOT wait to start the new job this month. 20 minute commute. lol
