45,000 trouble free miles here on an early '06.

Internet forums are basically a honeypot for everyone to air out their complaints about whatever. Consumer reports rated the HHR as a recommended buy, and I know how you Honda fanbois listen to whatever they have to say, so buy one already!

BTW, if you want to read about some problems people are having with their Accords, check this out:

If you've had transmission problems, you may be entitled to a piece of this pie:

Welcome MWG2,

Absolutely trouble free so far. I’m not sure if this is kind of an apples and oranges thing, with your priorities and vehicle needs being the deciding factor. The Honda Element would be the most comparable, how does the price compare? I’m sure some Honda owners where not quite as fortunate as you and had some kind of warranty troubles. Forums tend to give a slightly slanted point of view in that there have been well over 200,000 HHR’s sold (I think) and just under 5000 members here (is that 2.5 %) (I often wonder why) with maybe a thousand active members with mechanical problems on just a few of them, not as bad as it looks at all, plus they tend to be more involved in their cars. (read a little anal) IMHO, if after doing all the pros and cons it is pretty much even and you have concerns about reliability you have to go with past experience or you will seconded guess yourself if anything does go wrong with the HHR and if your Honda breaks we will never hear about it. Win/win.

I have owned Honda Accords for the past 8 years. They are absolutely trouble free. I have never had one problem, not one. I want to buy an HHR, but I get on forums like this one and read about problems, and well, I am reluctant. So my question is this: Have any of you wonderful HHR owners been blessed with a trouble free HHR?

Thanks!!

My beloved Wheelie has been TROUBLEFREE for me for the last year and a half, none of the problems that were mentioned in this forum (Leaks on carpet, engine rattles, etc) has hit my 4 wheeled friend. and I hope they never do!..now what I HAVE had problems with were minor little annoyances that I don't consider to be horrible problems, my recent annoyance was that my dome light popped off suddenly, oh, and a strange foggy buildup that has appeared on my driver's side mirror, that I can't seem to get off, but other then those little annoyances, NO PROBS!! :)

Not trouble free here. Mine is going to the dealer tomorrow for the key stuck issue. But, having said that, I highly recomend that you try actually driving the car. It is a very different experience from driving an Accord. The Ecotec is a good engine and GM transmissions have a reputation of being well durable, so drive train issues are not a concern IMHO. But the look of the interior materials and feel of the swich gear is not as nice as it is in the Hondas.

For me, the HHR beat out the CRV. The Honda was too pricey, and had an odd feel to it. Not to mention I could fit my bikes into the HHR more easily.

Over three pages of problems on the 7th Generation alone.

Don't let Forums decide your destiny. Folks come to forums to find answers and ***** sometimes.

7.5 months, 17000 km; mine hasn't seen a dealer or shop once. I fixed the armrest position myself, did 2 oil changes and topped up the coolant overflow tank once. That's it. My rotors are slighly starting to pulse when they are hot, so maybe next year I'll spring for aftermarket rotors.
