Which way to go??

Hey all

Well I have come to the conclusion that my lower control arms have shot bushings, and I am torn as to whether to swap out just the bushings or do the whole control arm. I have searched thru some threads/posts here and seems most go the whole arm route, since you have to take them out anyways to do the bushings! Has anyone tried the prothane bushings though? Do they last longer than the stockers? pro's versus con's?
2009 auto SS
thanks all!

Check out the Moog Problem solver bushing part number K200792
I've already drilled out the rivets and installed the Moog ball joints later next week I'll be pressing my second set of OEM bushings out and the Moog bushings in.
Poly urethane bushings won't articulate enough to give a good ride or last very long for street use.

bushings

Oldblue has it right, poly bushings transfer road vibs and do not give a good ride, that is unless you are road racing or autocrossing (HHR)! If it were me I would do the whole job. Front ends are one of those things that wear over time and you get used to it. Go for the new car feel.

I ran poly bushings in my drag cars and DIRT BB modified cars.
Had a bushing set on my '84 Trans Am, rode like a dump truck , but handled Mosport awesome

Not hard at all , as for the press use a ball joint press , most parts palaces rent them, I took my bushing into the store to ensure the press pieces fit the job!

Hey oldblue
is that part for the moog bushing for the lt/ls or the SS? i keep seeing part# K6698 as the bushing for the SS, but every pic shows a side shot so i cant tell if its the same as stock bushing with the cut outs in it, which i dont want

thanks

I'm not sure, I researched the Moog K6698 part number on their website, it lists the bushing for LS/LT/SS? It should be the same size then, they do not differentiate the FE5 suspension or Turbo model

Hey Oldblue, last question... did you also replace the front bushing? I am having the rear bushing and the ball joint replaced at a local Napa and he said he cant do the front bushing. So is it ok to NOT replace the front one?

I haven't replaced my front bushings in 192,000 miles, they are pretty much low stress anyway. no flexing to death like the rear LCA bushings
