Unfortunately, money is tight, and 3 cars is just too much for a 22 year old in college working part time. Something has to go. The truck and Lumina are both paid off, so if I sell one of them they won't really help me out whereas selling the HHR I'll lose the payment. According to KBB the HHR is worth $11,800, which is $1k more than I paid for it back in '09. I don't know that I can get that much for it though, but we'll see. I've been looking locally and even ones with 100k+ miles are selling for $10k. I only owe $6k on it, so I'll be getting a lot of cash back which will help pay some bills. Luckily the Lumina seems to be a great DD, and I wouldn't be surprised if I could even get 5+ years out of it easily the way I maintain it. Luckily there are so many of them on the road for parts and we can fix it ourselves when things break.

So hopefully by the time it's a true beater, I can get something that I always wanted, like a Mustang convertible as a fun summer toy. I don't know, we'll see. But as a struggling college kid, I've got to make some choices.

I really hate to see it go, but I have to. Stress has been killing me with bills being due and whatnot. I actually am getting gray hair from it, and my blood pressure is actually high. I'm literally killing myself by keeping it. I just got to look at it as just a car, which is hard for me to do....

Well sometimes the rational choices are the hardest, even though your HHR might be heading down the road, don't be a stranger here OK.

Thanks guys. I've been able to make all my payments both on the car and on my bills on time, so I've never been late or missed a payment. But as it is now, with the few hours I get at work I don't know if I would be able to keep it that way. I had astounding credit when I got the car, and I'd like to keep it that way. I think selling the car before it gets that bad is my best bet.

I haven't really decided what to ask for it though. Beings that I don't need it gone ASAP yet, I think I might start higher and work down if I don't get any offers. Honestly though it looks a lot better than about any HHR you see on the road around here of that age.

My mom says I should look at it as if it were a lease...

Or - - you could decide to sell the Lumina for 5 or 6k and pay off the loan and have a nice reliable car to boot. Just a thought........

When I was 18 I fell in love with a 1971 Oldsmobile Cutlass convertible - red with white bucket seats. I wanted that car soooo bad. I had to make a decision - spend the $4200 for the car (about a year old as I recall) and go to work in the shop to pay for it - or - buy some nice reasonably priced transportation and go to college.

Probably one of my better decisions, I skipped the car and ended up with a 1968 Torino - acutally a great car with buckets and tri-power, but only $1800. I made it through school and it paid off.

You're probably doing the right thing - as long as you don't go dumping $22K into a Mustang next year. :)
