You might need to do your black Depos some day anyway. Why not practice on the ones you have now? And at least you’ll enjoy an improvement until you get the new ones.

That's exactly why I bought an extra set of used tail lights - If I mess-up the ones I currently have, I can install the others!

Are you concerned about having the taillights orange peel? I used Clear Gloss Acrylic 2X Rustoleum and it came out excellent. But! you have to make sure to do the super fine wet sanding first, then apply in 4 very thin coats. You may get orange peel if you apply it too thickly at once.

here’s the one I used and it came out excellent!

I'm gonna try that for sure! What grit did you use? Step grits or just one? Similar process to resurfacing a bowling ball but without the clear gloss spray LOL (I use abralon pads)
After giving my backyard deck a complete overhaul, maybe I can spend some time on my headlights & tail lights.

This is what an MPX cobalt exhaust looks like on an hhr. Getting 1 hanger moved and the muffler section shortened 2” next week. Sounds great with a catless downpipe and zfr

yes. I used 800 then 1200 but wet the whole time. Then buff a little with a wash cloth. Use rubbing alcohol, then the clear acrylic. You should be good to go. Remember - spray thin thin layers!

I received my Rvinyl kit this week. Going to be using most of the kit in my SS. Went with the black carbon fiber too.

The instructions call for a 3M primer and a sealant for around the edges. Gonna get some of that before I apply it.
