It’s a very nice looking HHR you have there , a keeper !
Today after three starts and 20 to 40 minute drives then , 1 to 2 hour cool down, still no CEL, no pending codes , so I’ll put the code reader away for now!
I did notice last night the right rear license plate bulb was dark, so today I replaced both , I have a couple of dozen LED 94 bulbs I bought of Wish a few years ago , $3.00 a dozen plus $2.50 shipping, so I ordered 3 dozen. They work in the side marker lights too. And the reading lights in the headliner lamps

It’s the 21st century, you should never leave your key in the ignition!

I know the century. Sadly, the hand shake is gone, etc. First car was 400.00 and the bank never filled out any paperwork, just come in and pay when you can. Actually glad to be the old age I am but if I didn't leave em in there wouldn't know where they were.

I get it! My first house was half of what we paid for my wife’s 2018 GMC Terrain! And my used 2011 HHR 2LT was less then the sales taxes on the Terrain! Sure is a strange new world! I pay for everything with my phone! Can remote start her car with the key fob! There isn’t an ignition key, just that fob.
my second car , I rigged a toggle switch to turn the ignition on and a push button switch on the floor to engage the starter, it didn’t come with the keys!

Was the fob in your pocket? I’ve squished the buttons sitting down with varied results. Also,if you absent-mindedly punch the lock button on the door once as you exit, there’s a little time delay with the locking, giving you time to close the door and walk away without noticing the doors have locked.

There are cheap non-chip key blanks that are otherwise identical to the HHR chip keys. You can get one of those cut and put it in your wallet are hide it in a magnetic box on the car. It won’t let you drive it but it will get you in.

There’s a Youtube on how to get into a car with a piece of string. The demonstration is done with an HHR!

I might refrain from posting any more of that project for the time being and save for the full start to finish build thread.
