Typical pattern tho. When the lakes are still warm they feed moisture into the arctic blasts, and when that air rises it dumps fantastic amounts of snow. Areas Southeast of Buffalo (downwind of Lake Erie) and East of Watertown (downwind of Lake Ontario) are notorious.

Preaching to the choir, here we can get lake effect snow from the west , north and south! And sometimes the east as the winds swirl! I’m glad to be able still to dig myself out of my own driveway, I just have to wait for the city’s snow plow!
Im going out now to clear the 2 1/2 feet from the end of my driveway!

A south suburb of Buffalo, Orchard Park (where the Buffalo Bills stadium is located), received 77 inches (6ft 5inches) of snow.

Fortunately, I live north of Buffalo and we only got about a foot.
