What is everyone using to remove push-pins?

Seeing as this '07 I just got is the newest car I've had in a long time, I am discovering push pins. Among other things I started today working on the air filter behind the headlight mod, and ran into those little evil push pins which completely refuse to come out. What is everyone using to get/cut/whatever these things out?

My dad has a little tool that's used to get them out. Don't know what they're called though. I suppose you could probably just use a screwdriver to pry them off, but I dont' know.

small screwdriver to pop the center pin out then the whole piece will come out...if they break most any auto parts store have them in the self help sections...if try to pry them out without popping the center pin first you chance pulling it thru the plastic then you have to use some sort of washer underneath because the hole will be too large.

I don't even try to save them...they're so cheap I bought a bag of them I always just put a new one in. They're so universal and they're so abundant on the car they work for so much!

Trying to use a screwdriver and needlenose pliers was a futile exercise. It took me forever just to get out about 4 of the push kind and 4 of the rivet kind. I think I'm going with the school of thought that its not worth trying to save them but instead just cut them out and replace them. I'm going to see if the local autoparts store has anything like that tool in Amazon or something.

I found that Lowe's carries some of the basic push pin sizes.

I've seen so called push pin removal tools online, but they are ridiculously priced. I might also go by Harbor Freight today. They list a set online that are only $10. http://www.harborfreight.com/push-pin-pliers-67400.html

The tool I use is like the one on amazon, but I don't know what it was originally made for, since it's older and has a wooden handle, but the end still looks the same... I think it was for removing trim in cars.

This is good to know.

By the way, those "Christmas tree" type fasteners that are used around the wheel well come out easily with the back end of a hammer. They seem like they don't want to let go, but just when you think you're about to do some damage, they pop out. I still do it slowly and patiently, though.
