Go to another dealer... they will all appraise vehicles differently.

I recently traded my HHR: 2007 1LT w/ auto trans and bright group, 12,000 miles. I dealt with several dealers. The highest trade allowance I could get was $11,200. This was through the end of September.

It is true however, that trade/resale on HHR is very low. As mentioned above, it is due in part to them being big in rental fleets, and the fleets being dumped onto the auction market after the rental company has had their one or two year run with them.

I found that most of the dealers I dealt with used Black Book or Manheim auto auction figures as their guide.

The only car value book that matters is the Auction value book. It shows what the average prices for the same vehicle is at an auction house and thats all your going to get. Any more than that and they`re going to hide it in the price of the new vehicle.

Good advice, thanks. My brother in law buys cars at Manheim. Next time I go to trade, I'll check with him.

The auction book isn't a good indicator of pricing though.Thats just the way they can knock you down in price. How can a dealer quote a price from the auction house when they don't "buy" from there? Thats where the smaller used car dealers go. its all about you have money and they want it.

A dealer is always thinking about what if they cant sell yuor cafr, and they have to take it to auction. Therefore, they rarely go too much higher than auction unless you have an exceptionally clean car and one that is desirable in the current market, i.e one which they feel comforgtable they can selll at retail without putting too much money in it, and which won't take long to sell.

In that light, however, a well kept low miles HHR should be a good selling prospect for a dealer, given the desire for fuel efficient cars that are practical and fun, and the HHR is all of those things.
