What is it's Purpose?

The rubber flap under the cowl that is held with butyl, what is for, is it to allow access to anything or was it needed for initicial assembly?

If you are talking about a 2006 car, it's for the assembly plant workers.

Just SEARCH "butyl patch" to see the 111 threads about it.

I did a search, but couldn't find the reason it existed. I only found how to repair a number of different ways. The guy at the local dealer wasn't sure why it was there, but they were kind enough to give me enough butyl to repair it myself for free.

If you had to read all 111 threads you would have found it!

Evidently, it is a spot to hide a Modelo on Friday afternoon.

I gave up at around 109

I originally thought it was to allow the blower motor to be changed from the outside. That was until I had a peak inside and realize, A, it's too big and B, it's really not a serviceable part from the factory.
