Dave-
I have a small shop that I do machine work & build Harley motors, etc..
I'm not trying to blow my Eco-Tec up. Was just testing a new mod. I can say it passed with flying colors..
I'm in my 2nd year of ownership of my Panel, & these were the first times I ran it that tight.. LOL

Actually Sleeper, I think everyone is confused about their advise, if you are speaking of the actual rev limiter.
You spoke of having the car is drive and accelerating hard, then noticing the shifts at 6500 RPM. The car is programmed to shift at a maximum of 6500. I think the rev limiter, which I believe cuts spark and limits fuel, is just slightly higher....and I mean SLIGHTLY.
When the limiter cuts in, you should notice a symptom of missing/hesitation. At least that is what happens in my other GM vehicles. Haven't had the HHR above 6500 (generally use Drive when accelerating hard).
JoeR is the person to ask about this. He's done extensive research on the programing aspects of this.

My 2.4L shifts at 6500 or a little above, (might be a little above since the tune) Even if I were to hold it in low at WOT it shifts to second at or around 6500...... With an auto I'm not sure how I'd hit a rev limiter while in gear...... maybe at 140? I donno.

So some have said there vehicle shifts at 6,500 rpm! So when your in OD and approching 6,500 rpm what gear will it shift into ?
also if SLEEPER is refering to hitting 6,500 rpm in L1, L2 or Drive and it not shifting could be a tranny issue say in the programing area !

DLVRNIT....I'm not understanding what your reference to shifting is. Are you saying Sleeper mentioned that (he did not) or are your using it as an example of sarcasm/humor?
In any event has anybody attained 6500 RPM in Drive? Most have said they needed to shift to L to gain top end speeds.......that the 2.4 & 2.2 wouldn't allow an accurate top end speed in Drive because the vehicle dynamics wouldn't pull it.

I just tested mine.
6700 rpm before the rev limited bounced and I had to shift.
First gear has a different rev limit than second and third.
I don't typically rev higher than 3500 but this was in the name of science.

So in a nutshell was just curious if he was in the driveway or driving when he hit the 6,500 mark! Rarely have we reved it up (especially 6,500 rpm) without it in gear!
Peace ,
