Smile what is the small half round eyeball centre of the dash close to windshield for?

looks like a photo sensor,some one told me its part of the new system for daytime running lights. my HHR is a canadian one,as we have had daytime running lites yrs in advance of american friends due to federal driving laws.would some one be so kind as to clarify this for me.

MY HHR 2009 ,sandstone beige,mileage just tiurned 10,000km &have owned her for 1 1/2 yrs, no problems to date,other than doorlock nobs binding which were fixed by advice on this wonderfull website

It's the light sensor that turns your headlights on.

It's for the auto headlights. It senses the light and determines if it should turn the headlights on or not.
