I get about 26 in town. Mine is a 2.2 that's pretty good considering my old car got about 17. But it was a V-6. I don't miss it though, this car has a lot more style than my 01 Ranger. There's about 5 million of those around here and I've only seen about 6 HHRs.

I have a 2.4 auto and get 23 - 24 with city driving. I have 6000 miles on the car so far.

27.6 combined city and highway with a 2.2L 5sp, long traffis lights, and slow moving traffic on a recently reset DIC will give you low #'s because it is taking an average.

2.4 auto, I do the math on each fill up. The lowest I remember was just under 20 and the best was 24.4. The DIC seems to be pretty close showing 22.2 right now. I was staying above 23 before the kids started school. But now, picking them up and dropping them off has increased city driving. Not to mention the horrible traffic around the schools.

Okay...that was gonna be my next question...how accurate is the DIC compared to calculating it yourself. Im gonna fill up tomorrow and set the trip and see what we get that way.

Side note....my Silverado has instant mpg on the DIC...wish the HHR did.

I have a 1LT w/2.4, auto. My experience with my DIC is that it has been pretty similar to the actual mileage. It has almost always said 24.something, and when I've figured my mileage at fill-up, it has Always been 24.something. I drive about 6-7 miles before I hit city speed, stoplights etc. but most of my miles have been in-town miles. Also, I don't punch it very often.... i used to speed but I don't anymore. I bought it the end of July and I've put about 2,000 miles on it.

I have yet to take a trip so I haven't been able to check highway only miles.

It is extremely accurate !!! If you calculate using the SAME factors.

Generally, the odometers mileage will be the same if you do the math yourself. But remember, gas pumped into the tank will not necessarily be equal to the quantity used in the algorithm of the DIC. To many variables are available to provide differences.....For example, if the DIC provided a display of "gallons used", and you filled your tank to this exact amount, YOUR calculations would agree with the DIC's indication of mpg.
