where is the best place to buy tires?

I have bought 3 sets of tires from Tire Rack so far and they have never let me down (bought for my other vehicles; not for the HHR yet). I always check the "walkaway" price with shipping and they are still less than anything I have seen elsewhere.

One thing worth mentioning. Is reading the "date codes"..
I always insist when ordering, if the tires are more than 1 yr old, I will return them..
Never a problem with Tire Rack.. But I have heard of places selling tires that are several yrs old. That just set on a shelf.. Yes new tread, but the rubber has already begun to degrade....
With the price of tires, I feel a buyer should get a fresh set... But you have to look & read them to be sure..
Just my .02

i got mine from discount tire this weekend. Had them price match treadepot.com + $25 off from TD + $25 off from Discount Tire. Plus their is a $50 rebate but it was limited to instock tires, but i don't see on my receipt where they list that, so I might try to submit it for a "why not" and see what happens.
Best price anywhere i could find, nothing else would even come close.

For anyone looking to read their date code. You can find your DOT number on one of your sidewalls. Tires produced after January 1, 2000 have a four digit date code at the end of the DOT number. The first two digits represent the week of production and the last two digits represent the last two digits of the year of production. So, 3500 as the last four numbers indicates that the tire was produced in the 35th week of the year 2000.
Just for fun, I went out and checked mine. Made in the weeks of August 9th, 23rd, and 30th.
On a side note, how does everyone feel about the tire replacement plans etc.? Discount has them, and i can't help feel like it is a warranty scam. Theirs is basically if anything happens to the tire down to 3/32 of tread, they replace it. Each tire it costs $22 to put it on there. I was trying to get free install on my tires and the guy said no can do, but he could give me all 4 replacement certificates for the cost of 2. I still didn't bite. But $40 or so total isn't bad insurance on tires that cost over 100 each (their price $140).
