It has to be something in the power steering. I assume since you have a 08 your still in warranty. IF so I would just take it in and let them deal with it at no charge to you.

Just for the sake of asking you did check the power steering fluid?

Yeah, the power steering fluid pump is right behind the rear wheels, in the storage compartment of the trunk !!!

It's called a battery.

You have electric ASSISTED steering. No fluid to check.

I bet it's the back seat driver whining about how you are driving.

While were on the noise topic. have any of you notice the overall ambient noise (big word) of the vehicle as you driver down the highway. To me it closely ressembles that of being inside a passenger jet

Can't complain here. Road noise is about half what my truck was.

I did not know if the standard HHR models had electric or not. I know my SS has it.

In many of GM's cars of the same model some are electric and some are hydralic like the G6 and Aura. I just depends on what trim level you have.

I have little time in a regular HHR so I was not sure.

Hmmm...I thought the SS cars were hydraulic like the VUE Red Lines.

My dad's ION had the same "rubbery" whine and they replaced a tie rod end. That car has the same steering setup as ours.

No the SS is electric. So the 2.0-2.2-and 2.4 all are electric.
