Angry World's Best Kept Auto Secret !!

Subject: The Worlds Best Kept Auto Secret !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

who knew??????????
Wow. it seems so simple now that someone pointed it out!
Pass it on!

Quick question, what side of your car is your gas tank?

If you are anything like me, you probably can't remember right away. My solution is to uncomfortably stick my head out the window,

strain my neck and look. If you don't do this in your own car you definitely have done it in a borrowed or rental car.

Well ladies and gentlemen, I'm going to share with you my little secret so you will no longer look like Ace Ventura on your way to the

gas station or put your neck at risk of uncomfort or injury.

The Worlds Best Kept Auto Secret

I have been driving (legally) for over a few decades. One would think I would have noticed the little secret on my dash that was

staring me right in the face the whole time. I didn't and I bet you probably haven't either.

If you look at your gas gauge, you will see a small icon of a gas pump. The handle of the gas pump will extend out on either the left

or right side of the pump. If your tank is on the left, the handle will be on the left. If your tank is on the right, the handle will

be on the right (see photo above). It is that simple!

I don't know how you feel right now but when I found out this morning I felt cheated!

Why don't the dealers share such important information with car buyers? I don't understand why this isn't in the drivers manual? I

don't get why any mechanic I have ever been too or know has even thought of mentioning this to me? The only possible explanation can

be that all these people probably don't even know!

Go out and share the worlds best kept auto secret with your friends as this is information is way too important to be kept secret.

Interesting tidbit... I had no idea about this little trick...

I'll still have to confirm this for my own piece of mind. I know that two of my 3 vehs fuel on the passenger side but never paid attention to the gas light on the dash...

Whats the decal if you fuel up in the rear? Say under your license plate?

I had a 76 Monte Carlo that had to be fueled under the license plate dead in center. I guess I never paid attention to what the little pump picture ment.

My old '69 Mopar had it under the rear plate, too... but back then, they hadn't even invented the gas pump light yet...

This myth appeared on the Corvette forum a few days ago too. That's exactly what it is too--a myth. My girlfriend's Camry has the pump handle on the right, but the cap is on the left side of the car. Looks like another one to throw in with the loose fuses and waking up in a bathtub full of ice with back pain threads.

My 1968 Camaro SS/RS 396 had the gas cap in the middle of the rear black panel above the bumper. License plate in the middle below the bumper.

On vehicles with single exhaust outlets, the gas filler cap is ALWAYS on the opposite side from the exhaust. I believe that it's Federal law.

That's still no help in remembering which side it's on. And then there are dual exhaust vehicles......

that icon is false.. Just took a quick look on my wife's jeep and the fill is on the drivers side and not the passenger side as the Icon would showed. To get tech, the tank is in the middle to keep weight even from side to side.
Does make more sense to have the fill opposite the exhaust outlet.

My old Dodge had a rear fill. It didn't have a fuel pump on the dash to indicate the location of the fill, it had this:
