An HHR that was a previous rental vehicle from another state?
I found 2 owner Dark gray 09 LT2 with 35000+ miles for $12,495 ...before negotiating. I might take a look at it this week if I get your blessings.

I personally wouldn't but that doesn't mean you shouldn't Others have bought rentals and been happy.

 

I just bought a 2008 Sandstone Metallic 2LT with 13,000 miles for $11,800. One owner, clean carfax. It was a trade in at a Audi/VW dealer . try cars.com - I found mine within 130 miles of home.

 

If you are pretty confident that you can fix the common issues yourself, and its ok cosmetically, then sure. Buying from a new car dealership should be safe. But $12,5 is a little high for a rental. Practice haggling before you go in.

 

I found the only thing they believe is when you throw hands up and say you must want it more than me, and leave don't worry when the boss hears that they will call you back of course thats if you gave them a number first ??

 

Defintely go look first. I do a lot of window shopping and comparison shopping before I buy anything. I want to make sure I get the most bang for my buck. Sounds like a good deal, esp if they will come down on the price. I wouldn't personally want to purchase a rental but just because it was a rental doesn't mean its a bad vehicle.

Check the carfax. Not all dealers offer it but if they do look it over. Keep your poker face on when negoitating!

 

Actually rentals are pretty well maintained. They have found that higher levels of maintenance reduces life cycle cost. Also, most rental customers are probably business people who just need something that moves, and aren't interested in abusing rental cars. I've had a couple of ex-rentals (one was a Shelby CSX) and they were fine. However, like with any used car, check it out carefully first. If you have a mechanic you use regularly, pay to have it evaluated.

 

I bought mine in January of this year, it is a Silver 2010 LT1 with Leather and Sunroof, the only thing missing was the stereo upgrade and it was in perfect shape with 11,800 miles ! I ran a Carfax report on it and it showed being registered to Enterprise rentals in Florida. The sticker was just over $25K and I bought it off of AutoTrader.com for $13,000, Don't be afraid of a rental, they are maintained regularly and make sure you run either a Carfax or an Autocheck report to make sure it hasn't been crashed.

 

I purchased a 2 owner LT1 with leather (originally a rental) in December for $12,900. It had 29K miles and came with the 12 mo. 12k miles certified warranty from GM. Would have liked the OnStar and Sirius but I don't think those options came on many rental units. It did have the remote start.
I would think you could get the price down considering the time/mileage left on the original warranty.

 

I did check the carfax on the website and thats how I found out it's a rental. The only problem is it isnt a Chevy dealer who has it now so it's not certified. It WAS offered for sale as a certified vehicle after the rental company sold it at auction. The second owner only had it 9 months and put 6000 miles on it.
I have been to this dealership in the past and I am familiar with their reputation so I somewhat trust them.
