I'd say the free market is truly American!

All I say is that I wish I could get someone else to pay for my long time poor financial decisions. And yes, my going under will hurt many people too.

And yeah, do we really need multiple threads about this?!

Don't ya think the HHR will be out of production well before GM would ever close shop? Giving them $200 million or whatever won't keep the HHR being made.

I love my HHR in fact my wife and I have purchased or leased nothing but Chevy's for almost 25 years. I've done all I can to support the company. If they are unable to survive then all I can say is buh-bye!

They had billions and billions of cash and yet they want money from US?

"Please, if you dislike GM or have bail-out bashing comments, keep them to yourself. For the people who would like to send a letter to congress regarding the GM bailout GM now has a site for you to express this."

What right do you have to try and prop up a company with MY money and then tell me I can't comment about it? Did you vote for the socialist Zero-bama as well?

"it is the American thing to do so do it"

I call BS on this! America was built on the backs of those that worked hard and succeeded to do better for their families and children. Taking from those that have to give to those that don't has never made this great nation grow.

I wrote a term paper in 1994 on the rise and fall of unions. My conclusion was that unions were pricing themselves out of their prospective industries. Guess I was right!

I'll support a government bailout of GM when they adjust salaries to compare with education levels. My health insurance is rising again next year. I'd take a pay cut just to get free health insurance.

Does anyone think that not assisting GM will help? When major corporations go down and an incredible amount of jobs are lost, whose taxes are increased after the mess? Your taxes! You will pay no matter which way it goes. The fallout of other associated companies collapsing on top of that, more jobs lost, more tax increaes!! Why do you figure your tax dollars are wasted, when they will rise anyway after a corporate collapse. GM needs to continue to run or the results will be damaging right across the board. Bashers beware...if the bailouts aren't given to the companies that need them, you will be the 1s that will pay more to support the country. Yes, there must be laws passed that require the companies that receive the bailouts. Assuring the cash is used in the proper matter that it is needed and not to support execs pocketbooks.
The need for the bailout is a positive for the economy as a whole. Everyone needs a job...no one wants to lose hers/his.

Like it or not you will be effected by the failure of the auto industry.

Many of us here have jobs tied to suppling the industry in some way. If they fail we lose our jobs too even if we don't work for any of them.

Also even if you don't work for anything connected to the industry the millions that do will stop spending money that will effect what ever you do for a living.

We are all in this like it or not. With the numbers of people involved it will effect all of us.

This is a case worse than any hurricane or eathquake. Once this happens it will be a lot of hard ships for millions of hard working families and children.

We lose all our spending we lose our economy from a ressesion to a depresion.

Once you effect millions of jobs and spending in this country you will get the same attention.

Also the automakers going under is going to effect you and those who depend on you. Once spending stops it is hard to get started again and will effect everyone.

I don't like bailing the industry out either and hate the unions but they are going to take the rest of us down if we don't save them. Too much of our economy is base directly or indirectly by them and we all will pay the price one way or the other.
