Would you purchase an extended warranty for your HHR?
I recently purchased a Silver 2010 HHR LS with 83k km on it.
I'll be honest, this was my first dealership car purchase, and I feel I was pressured a bit on some things.
Anyway, I purchased an "extended" warranty via the Dealership from a company called First Canadian Protection plan. (here is what this covers, I have the "Full Wrap": http://www.firstcanadian.ca/document...o_brochure.pdf). I was put under the impression that for my financing to go through the bank would want to see some sort of protection plan. I have since spoken with the bank and am confident this was not required at all, and in fact I probably would have had better chances to get the loan given the lower principal!
But, this car still has 80k/2 years left on its manufacturer powertrain warranty with GM. The FCPP warranty is for 2 years / 40k. While alot more is "covered" (with a 50$-100$ deductable, alot of the coverage items that might fail that are covered by the extended wrap (electronics (stereo), window motors, etc) I would probably replace myself if I didnt have the warranty, so I would only have the cost of the parts to worry about.
I am financing the car, and didnt have the best credit in the world so I've got a higher rate with a high monthly payment. Only having to pay a 50$-100$ deductable to get any of the listed repairs done is nice, but if I cancel the warranty, I will owe $2200 less principal, and be that much closer to payoff.
Given that from everything I've read, the HHR is a very reliable vehicle, and if I keep up with regular required maintainence, and the fact that I've seen many with 300k km when I was shopping, what would you fellow owners do? Would you keep a warranty like this?

i have the same warranty from first canadian..i paid about 3000 for full coverage last year when i bought my car and it has come in handy and has paid for itself mine is a 2008 and at time of purchase had 45,000km and now has 77,000...on the other side, they are not a very good company to deal with, gives the dealership a hard time and takes forever to get things approved..i now know in future to only purchase GMPP warranties since they pretty much OK anything immediately or are just more easier to deal with.
considering your factory bumpter to bumper ends after 3 years so you should be in your final year or close to it, the remaining GM warranty covers powertrain for 5yrs..so keep it it should come in handy and if not, just start claiming things lol

I know i'm outside the "New Vehicle Warranty", which was 3yrs/60k
Still have these factory coverages, according to the GM chat service.
Corrosion Limited Warranty, ends 06/08/2016 or 160035km
Powertrain Limited Warranty, ends 06/08/2015 or 160035km
Emission Select Component Ltd Warranty ending on 06/08/2018 or 130035km
What you mentioned about them not being a good company to deal with is exactly why I'm hesitant to hand over my money. Is there a possibility to purchase a GMPP on a used car or are things like FCPP my only options?

So I checked, I missed out on the GMPP as I would have needed to purchase it within the 3yr/60k period. Too bad I bought the car at 80k.
Anyone else have bad stories about dealing with FCPP? Or, anyone else had many problems with their HHR?

I bought the HHR new in 2007, it was at the dealer for repair's four times a year sense new.
Chevy stopped fixing the brakes after 5000 miles, im out of pocket over $2000 on brakes alone. i have to replace the rotor's and drum's every year.
One site say's it's a known vacuum issue that GM refuses to address. said to be the 2.4L does not produce enough vacuum to operate the booster properly.
One site say's it's a weight issue, said the HHR is based on the cobalt chassis and the added body weight cause massive brake issue.
One site say's, only the HHR's that have the chrome package running the 17'' wheels are having the brake issue's.
There's other reason's listed on the net, but im to lazy to type them all out LoL.
Both front sway bar links broke slap in half with under 5000 miles on the car.
With 7000 miles, some type of clip broke in the gear selector, this wouldn't let the car go in park. this also meant you couldn't turn the key off enough to power the system off. had to remove a battery cable for four days before the dealer could get it in.
8000 miles, left front wheel bearing slap burned up.
10,000 miles, all four fuel injectors had to be replaced.
I'm done typing, i'm getting ticked-off all over again about this car.
There are many other issue that my car has had fixed under warranty, but i'm done talking about it.
If you can find a company that is willing to sell you a extended warranty on your HHR? do it, It'll save you thousands of dollars.

I just re-upped from my 2008 LT to a 2010 SS, and yup, I sprung for the extended warranty. This is my first turbo-charged vehicle and I have no idea what kind of problems may crop up. My 2008 LT was surprising fault-free, save a cracked exhaust flex pipe covered under the 8 year/80k cat warranty.
The extended warranty is worth it to me.

they arent that bad of a company, just the service is a little slow..for example if u bring your car in and needs work done under warranty, the service advisors can just go ahead and submit to GMPP and go ahead with the work...with FCPP they have to call it in and wait for a response, so u might have to wait awhile, leavet the car there or come back another day to get the work done..you will be looking atleast a 2-3hour wait by the time they get back to them. So far they have Ok'd everything that i needed done so long story short i think it was worth getting the warranty
