Wrecked It
#21
I never really said it was the truck's fault.. But he caused it to happen..
Had he been driving like he should have been he would have slowed and stopped or slowed, signaled, and turned.. As it happened he had enough warning to swerve. It's the way it would be correographed it you were trying to wreck someone..
The front car stops... The blocker doesn't slow down and just barely misses the stopped car. The car behind the blocker doesn't stand a chance..
I'm just glad I wasn't going very fast, we were probably at least ten under the speed limit.. And that minimized the damage... Otherwise it would have been totaled... Just a new front clip probably.. It didn't get back to the tires..
Just the AC condenser was pushed back into the radiator..Bumper and headlights are smashed...Hood and grill smashed..
The bumper submarined under the Honda.. I will say this, The Honda had FAR less damage than the HHR...
I'll get some good pics this afternoon...

HHR is a total loss..
No the "blocker" quickly disappeared...
Pretty harsh treatment from a few.. I agree it might have been avoided had I any warning at all.. And if somebody does something crazy right in front of you, I dare you not to look at it...Remarks like that are uncalled for.
The guy in the pickup either didn't hit his brakes, or didn't have brake lights.
So, I kind of got the sucker punch either way..It's not like he went into the center turn lane and stopped to avoid the car in front of him. He went across the center turn lane and two oncoming lanes into a parking lot and was gone. Setup ? who knows...
Anyway, This will probably be my swan song here... After owning the HHR for nearly 6 months I wasn't happy with the seating position and I was constantly leaning forward to see out of the thing...But who knows..
Here's the carnage. Didn't take very much damage to total it out..

Sad to say, but usually when the bags deploy its game over. Just too much cost in replacing all the supplemental restraint components plus the other damage. We are in the age of disposable cars, in a few more model years repair may no longer be an option, bend it and throw it away will be the norm.
Sorry to see another one used up, but everything did its job and you're OK, that's all that matters. Second guessing will do no good, so maybe folks should stop the Monday Morning Quarterbacking, and just be happy no one was hurt.

I know what your feeling, almost the same thing happened to me years ago. I wasn't expecting people to stop on a bridge because there is no stopping on the bridge.
turns out some lady was driving the opposite way in our lane because traffic on her side of the bridge was stopped.
I slammed on the brakes and rear ended the pickup in front of me coz he jammed on his brakes and i could not see if front of him.
The cop had to cite me but he only wrote a $10 ticket.
He understood the whole situation and the witnesses stayed there and boxed the lady in. but i was still at fault.
the guy in the pickup was pissed but i just told him I have insurance it will be covered. what else can i say?

As to the SRS system, assuming you were by yourself and the passenger bag did not deploy, the mimimum cost to replace the SRS components (airbag, sensor, diagnostic unit, clockspring, seat belt unit, labor) would be over $1,500......
