I have no one to blame but myself.......

I was running to QT and somehow went totally braindead and blind, and didn't realize that my truck was parked at the end of my driveway. I backed my HHR into it. Only going maybe 5mph, but WOW, it hit hard.

A contributing factor is that the custom bumper has no impact absorbing material in it. It's just solid fiberglass, then the support framework.

You can see in the first pic where the bumpers met. At night I didn't see any damage. But today, while it doesn't appear to be much, I'm afraid the where the main damage is, lots of stress damage around two mounting bolts inside tailgate opening, that it may have affected the integrity of the bumper. The cracks you can see aren't just in the paint, it is the fiberglass.

Unhappy

Mike I have done the same thing in other cars and it really just sucks when it happens and from the looks of Bob you will be getting him another bumper and that sucks even more.

Sadly, a new bumper is $745! Then paint and such, I'm guessing $2000 before I'm done. Gonna be a year before I can get that together. Plus I still gotta find someone to finish the tune.

Sorry to hear about that... I've had to replace my wife's back bumper twice for about the same reasons since she bought the car Sept 09. Once her mom backed into her, and the second time she backed out of the garage into the basketball goal (That's been there forever... lol) Both times I was able to find a bumper on eBay fairly cheap, and local body shop here in town charged me about $150 to have it painted (as long as it was already primed)

Sorry to hear about that but I can feel the pain through my own experience. I had my new '09 LT for 1 month when I too forgot about my Explorer parked at the bottom of the drive.

No damage to the truck but the hitch punctured the HHR rear bumper cover at the reflector.

Body shop cost $1295.

My own fault and fortunate I didn't do damage to both.
