Write to GM about discontinuing the HHR.
I think GM's decision to discontinue the HHR instead of updating it is about as short-sighted as the discontinuation of the Camaro. I have seen some brilliant ideas from customizers, and I don't understand why GM can't use some of those ideas to freshen the car. One custom I particularly liked was a pearl white car I saw on this site that made it look similar to the '56 Chevy Nomad.
Since the PT Cruiser and HHR have both been discontinued, there's almost no place to go for a compact utility vehicle, unless you want to pay about $10k more for an Equinox; but that's just another generic SUV. I love my HHR for the economy (over 100,000 miles and haven't done anything but change the oil), and for the utility (I'm a property manager, and can fit a stove or dishwasher in the back easily). And I still love the retro theme.
I wrote to GM already; if you agree please take the time to go onto the Chevy site and give them a piece of your mind.
Thanks!

Its a noble effort and one that might have worked back in 2010 or very early in the 2011 model year if the groundswell was large enough. But I'm afraid that no amount of support for the HHR or letters to that effect can bring back the dead, the last one rolled off the line at 5:05pm May 27, 2011.
Like the Nomad before it, the HHR will go through a phase of being current, then being a cheap used truck, and someday in the future you might see them become coveted collectibles. As for mine, I have no intention of getting rid of them, and I'll probably be one of the old geezers at the car shows 40 years from now explaining them to the crowd of youngsters who flew in with their atomic powered saucer cars.

They are not using the platform anymore, so I guess it cost too much to retool. I just picked up a 2011 HHR and I am glad they are not making it any more. This makes them more unique. GM does odd things, but I expect nothing less. Once they get a vehicle perfect, they cancel it :)

IMO, futile effort. The decision to make the HHR for 5 years......was made 5 years ago when the platform was included in the discontinued list. Vehicles like the HHR are designed and implemented to provide a little financial assistance, for a specific duration, to the manufacturer. In effect, obsolescence is built in.
Good effort by GM and it did fill a small segment of the market. Although it contributed to GM's bottom line, it was VERY minor.......I'm told, less than $300 per car. In the grand scale of auto business, that is a trivial amount over 5 years.
So, if you wish to be part of NON movement, go ahead and write, it's your time and effort.
