XM Radio discounts...

If you already have XM and it's about to lapse or renew, just call them up and threaten to cancel your service. They'll go through several options, including offering you a year for roughly half price. I didn't want to go that route, so they said they'd extend my service for another 3 months for free so I can "think it over" and then it would renew at the regular price. However, I'm going to cancel when the extended complimentary 3 months are up. Even if you totally cancel your service, after about a month they'll mail you some offers again.

More and more of the stations I listen to though have commercials, or DJs yakking between songs on the so called "commercial-free" stations, so I think I'll still cancel. I've got the advanced audio system in my HHR and it has the mp3 radio, so I can just load up 100 mp3 songs on a CD and I'm good to go.

Like Robert said.

I just renewed for $77 + their stupid royalty fee.
It was about $91 total for 1 year.

I didn't even need the code.
I just said "I don't have the code number handy but I know it was for about $77."
They know.
Don't let them bullshirt you.

Tell them one of you friends got a special price for 5 months. That is all I did. They give you a deal for 5 months for 20 dollars. You have to call back every 5 months but it ends up being a little cheaper.

Here in Canada, we cancelled it after the initial free 3 month service about a year and a half ago. They then kept offering discounted prices via e-mail which eventually dropped to $5 a month for a 6 month period, which we signed up for, then it was to go to something like $15/mo.. At the end of the 6 month we cancelled again. Within a month we rec'd an email tittled something like "Special offer just for you - $6.99 a month" - but the details inside the email said they would once again offer it for $5/month. So far we haven't signed back up. :-)

I can rarely find anything on worth a damn. It's just like FM and cable tv. 400 million channels and nothing to watch or listen to.
