xm radio code?

I've had xm radio in 3 different vehicles before, so I know that you can go to channel 1 or 0, or whatever and get the radio ID, but mine won't let me. I have an 06 HHR and I bought it used. it was obviously a repo because it didn't come with the owners manual or ANYTHING and the key is cut wrong and there's no remote lock.

Anyway, it has xm radio, and I'm guessing it came with the car, because it's on the sterio screen, and not a little thing on the dash or anything. The previous owners had xm presets, and when I would press the preset, it would say something like not authorized, or not available, I can't exactly remember because this was 3 months ago that I made my own presets. I press a button on the sterio, and it says "xm radio function", but it won't let me change the station to what I need to get the code. When I try tuning it using the radio tuners, it turns the fm radio, and just turns off the screen that says xm radio function.

What the heck is going on?
How do I get the radio ID?
Is there any way to use the VIN and contact xm to get it to work?

EDIT: By the way, I already have a subscription from a unit that I took out of my old car, however, the radio is actually broken, it won't turn on. I'm trying to transfer the subscription from that radio to the one in the car.

The last 8 are 6s518535. I'm going to feel like a complete idiot if the last 8 happen to be the code or something.

Oh, I wonder why in the world it says xm radio feature then. I guess it's just xm ready or something? Maybe the last owners took it out or something. Thanks anyway. How the heck did you get all that info by the way?

It just means the HU can control the XM module. Its a separate thing the dealer installs. It allows them to keep the same HU but not give the XM module for everyone. Its a ~$200 part I think.

But it allows you to use your HU to control it instead of having an external display attached to your windshield or dashboard.

I work at a Chevrolet dealership.

Lot's of radios have the CAT button, but never had the XM from the factory. It can be added if you can find a dealer to do it for a reasonable price.
