XM required for Premium sound package in Canada?

GM Canada finally updated their site so that you can now build a 2007 HHR.

One thing that ticked me off is that in order to get the Premium Pioneer system on a HHR LT with 1SB package (1LT equiv) you have to order XM ($260 option). Pioneer/XM are standard on the HHR LT 1SC package (2LT equiv).

Is the same situation true with the US models?

Not in 2006 it wasn't. I had the premium system without XM. I'm more of a Sirius guy myself..

Is there no way to opt-out of that? Seems to me that people are being made to purchase something the don't want or need. Have you called a dealer and asked them about this?

The "Build Your HHR" tool forces you to take the XM option if you want the premium sound package. You get a popup that shows:

Selection of Pioneer Premium Speaker System w/Subwoofer

Requires that you choose:

XM Satellite Radio
They do toss in a 3 month trial subscription.

I'll have to talk to my salesman and see what he knows about this.

And.......I see no where an option for the running boards, or that they are included in any package??

That seems strange to force XM as part of the premium package. I have a 2006 and I had/have no need for XM. From my understanding XM and Surius aren't even that great in Canada. What's the point of having it up here if it's American programing? I don't need American talk radio, American baseball channels, college football etc.

Hopefully your dealer can delete XM from the premium sound somehow.

Running boards are standard equipment on the 2007 HHR in Canada.

Calgaryhhr, they also offer hispanic speaking stations. Surely you can use them in Canada!

I use my XM radio to listen to St. Louis Cardinal baseball games here in Florida. I have to support my hometown team! I've also found while traveling in the south it's hard to find anything but country music on the dial. While I'm a big fan, I want something different occasionally. There's a lot to offer on XM, including comedy. The Weather Channel came in very handy one time.

But, I have to say I would have preferred to have a removable XM system rather than built in. I'd love to be able to take the radio inside my home or work. You can access XM Online but it doesn't offer sports stations and most businesses block it. A second portable system will cost an add'l $6.99 per month. Yes, I'm on a budget!

I just talked to my sales contact at the dealership.

He said that if the "Build Your HHR" tool tells you that you have to take XM, then that is the way they have set up the Premium sound package for 2007.

He sold his father a 2007 Impala and it was the same deal; couldn't remove XM from the package.
