Side note: My wife and I had 'Farmers' from 1998 till 2002 when they doubled our insurance on the '97... to help them recover their losses from 9/11...[/QUOTE]

Insurance companies can be a bunch of crooks. Just like the oil companies.

In Florida with State Farm, mine was classified as a "sport wagon" and the premium was slightly lower than full coverage on my '98 Windstar. I anticipate a change in 2007 when Florida is no longer a "no fault" state. Hopefully, we'll see another decrease because one person will be at fault for the accident instead of both paying for damage to their own vehicles.

I just talked to my insurance folks (The Hartford, through AARP) and they said the HHR is classified as a personal transportation vehicle. It is grouped in that catagory along with light trucks, minivans, small SUV's, and station wagons and sedans. They don't actually have a break down for specific cars such as a station wagon, it's just one large grouping. However, their rates are based on several factors such as location, theft rate, repair costs, and a few other things. So I asked them what group of vehicles are the least expensive to insure, she said that the personal transportation group is generally the least expensive compared to that of the Sports car group, Large trucks and SUV's, Exotics, ect.. But even within any specific group the rates will vary according to the factors mentioned above. She gave me an example saying that the Ford Focus station wagon is the same rate as our beloved HHR. -Dan
