08 SS wheel peeling?

hi i have 08 red ss standard with all opts, anyway it has 8800 miles noticed the driver rear wheel has the clearcoat peeling in two different spots. i took it in to the dealer and car isnt a year old till feb 09, they wish to replace with a reconditioned wheel,i do not wish to have a reconditioned wheel (dont know what was wrong with wheel i'm getting?)and since car isnt a year old i requested a new one. has anyone won this battle against gm. also car isnt driven in winter and has never been washed in a carwash, only touchless washes.

I'd take the reconditioned wheel. They are liable for it so I don't think they would give you one with a problem. Ask to see it before it is installed. Heck if it bothers you ask to see them ballance the wheel/tire assembly to make sure it was not a ballance problem. Likely it had the same issue you current wheel has and it was just stripped and recoated.

Just about all GM wheels, except steel, are now reconditioned. They are just like a transmission, alternator, a/c compressors, and engines. They have a core charge on them. GM started this last year on the wheels. Reconditioned means they were stripped and re-coated. They do not take back wheels that are impact damaged, so you aren't getting something that was in a collision.

Do not fear reconditioned.

Let face it the odd there is something wrong with a new wheel are no better than with the reconditioned wheel.

The new one you have now is peeling.

If there is something wrong with it they will replace it for you just keep your records. Odd are great you will never have an issue.

I have an 08 HHR SS. I was not sure that these wheels are clearcoated. They look like uncoated polished alloy to me. But if the clearcoat on yours are peeling, then I guess that is proof that they are indeed clearcoated.

Had this happen on one of our GMs already. The reconditioned wheel had a thicker-better looking- coating than the wheels that came with the vehicle when it was new !!-o6designs-Bob

When I got run off the road by the cell phone guy the straps they put on the wheels to pull it out left marks.

A little polish and wax cleaned up the strap marks and they are like new.

The body shop guy at the dealer said they are clear coated and treat them like clear coat paint.

I also had two replaced one from a stone chip from the crash and one because the dealer nicked it when they alignment guy used the wrong thing to clamp on the wheel lip. [They replaced it with out me saying a thing].

Both wheels look just like the other two I have. no better or worse.

I noticed a scratch on my hood after taking it through a "touchless" car wash. I think that's the last time I do that.

clear coat peeling

[ First of all a vehicle with 8000 miles gets a new wheel period.
re con wheels are ok depents on who's doing them .GM RECOMENDS
Trans Wheel in INDY .CHECK YOUR bulletins. That wheel as a part#
they can order you new a wheel. The reason they want to give you a recon wheel is that it is less half the price of a new one.Fyi the clear coat on the wheels is a powder coat polyester clear very tough your vehicle has a
Basf base clear which is urethane it like apples and oranges. Most wheelS
FAILURES are do to thin flim build
