RTFM is less polite...

ChevyMgr: I just wanna take a minute to say how much I appreciate your presence on this site. I can't count the number of times I've seen you contribute solutions, knowledge, and ideas. I am sure I speak for numerous others as well.
Thanks Nebulous1, yes I was being polite!

And I second the compliment to Brad!

Maybe true, but a definite reason along the same lines is that running the compressor also keeps the seals in the lines in good shape. Compressor not running for an extended period can cause the seals to dry out and shrink, or it used to be that way.

The compressor has run when in defrost for more than 20 years, this can't be the first time you have noticed it.

Thank you Nebulous1 for your very helpful points. My thoughts exactly and why I feel the dealer will not be willing to help. Also bigdog9586 and Lone Ranger hit the nail on the head regarding the reason(s) behind this annoyance.

The point of my post was to try to obtain some ideas or instructions from anyone who has tried to address this feature by disabling it. I didn't really want to generate a discussion of the pros and cons. That being said, however, I have also noticed a slight performance and drivability hit with the air conditioner operating.

Anyway, still awaiting some "how to" replies.

If you never want the ac compressor to run, unplug it at the compressor clutch. If you want total control, install a switch and cut the wire that goes to the ac clutch, running it thru the switch so you can control it. You can also splice the switch into the low pressure cutout pressure switch and get the same result, the compressor will not run if no power gets thru that wire either.

First, just to be clear, this is really a non-issue. I would not even give it a second thought. After all this is a truck shape and wind resistance is more of a factor then A/C. You will quickly reverse whatever you do (and maybe give up your factory coverage for the A/C) when you feel the results.

However, since you are intending to do something just install a simple vacuum switch A/C cutout, found in any parts store. When you are accelerating the vacuum switch will cut out the A/C until you get off the gas. Had one on a Ford product during the last "gas crisis". It worked but the car got hot and uncomfortable when going up hill.
