In the last couple days I have been researching the HHR SS! Today I drove a Stick and and Auto
The stick is definately faster but I didn't really like the shifter......The Auto is plenty quick and much smoother.......So now I have a Big decision to make!
I hate the no armrests in the stick also.......So what to do........
Well, the shifter is really easy to shift, and the clutch very light, nothing like my Corvette. As for the armrests, well, I've kinda gotten used to it, and a drivers armrest would be in the way anyway. As for some clamoring for a six speed manual, I wouldn't know why, first is over almost before you can shift, and the other gears are spaced very well, with 4th being perfect till over 55, and 5th good till 155mph. What would be the purpose of another gear?
The turbo's torque band is VERY wide, and you don't need 6 gears like a high strung normally aspirated 4 cyl would.

tomo366, just keep in mind that in two months in May supposedly the 2009 Jetta TDI will be available with the new Bluetec Common Rail TDI @ 150hp/235lb-ft tq, 50 state emissions legal, same price point as the 2006 TDI's.

I'm surprised the 289 lb-ft hasn't shredded the DSG auto trans yet...

But you'd do well w/ an SS too.

You are correct the DSG will only hold 258.......I was first on the list for a Sportswagen.......I am POed about the cost of Diesel 4.09 Gallon.......I like the retro look and I am an old guy so why not!

I'm also p!ssed about diesel peices, since the wife's ride is a 2005 Volkswagen Beetle TDI 5-speed... but its logging on average: 42mpg around town and 49 on the road so that helps a little

But... the HHO (Home Heating Oil) season is winding down and diesel is still sky high = BS! HHO is always their #1 BS excuse for jacking diesel prices in the winter, even though on-road diesel accounts for 50% of the total distillates market and HHO only 10%...

personally, i think its a steaming load of hot crap with regards to diesel costing so much and the price of gasoline. I think there IS lots of oil and its just being controlled by those that have it and are filthy rich. Supply and demand at its best. It's like the old gold rush days of the mid 1800's....people in mining towns were paying $10 for a dozen eggs in Alaska AND British Columbia.
