Blown Head Gasket

Up Date:
Just got a call from the tech, Melted one piston, they have the engine torn down so far parts needed new piston, new sleeve, new crank, and new rings.
They still don't what was causing too much boost before it had the revs to go with it.They'll have to wait until thay get it back together.
They won't get any parts until next week.

Well it's the most serious of anything going wrong with any new car I ever bought.I've had friends that got new crate motors and had troubles with their engine and friends with major HP rebuilds that was nothing but headaches.I guess well find out how good the techs are in this neck of the woods.

melted piston would indicate a very lean condition, thats why when people jack up boost manually without proper fueling, BAD stuff happens, there are so many things that can malfunction with todays technically advanced cars, good luck on the repair

I'm glad the dealer is trying to do a thorough job repairing it. I would feel more comfortable with them replacing the entire rotating assembly as opposed to just one piston. Even though only one melted, the others were likely stressed, along with the rods and bearings. Cleaning the top of a piston with a strong solvent may show a somewhat sponge like appearance to the surface if severe detonation has occurred without actually causing a meltdown. This should hopefully serve as a warning to the inevitable ricers who will want to do cheezy tricks to "increase bewst" without doing their homework.

i'm with the others. give a new motor or car. with a stock car, something had to happen in the ecu for the car to lean out. replacing the piston without finding why it fried in the first place is a no no. if they do trace it,you know that will take forever. sorry to hear that. you had been very proud of your car too .
i guess with us tuned guys, our tune must increase the fuel so we won't lean out. however thinking about it,in the summer before i got the bsr tune,i was boosting 19 and holding with no problems(due to humidity and heat).
