The main cause that we see of a damaged piston is overfueling. I suspect an injector stuck open since the damage was only one cylinder.

And here I thought direct injection was a good thing.

But what would cause my boost to peg before it had very many revs.Just in 2,3,4,5 So I might pass it on to the techs.

Just a note this car was never tampered with or up graded.

Interesting. That didn't even occur to me. I'm still kind of surprised it wouldn't be cheaper to throw a crate short block at it, rather then resleeving a cylinder and clocking all that labor to replace the bottom end.

That's what I was thinking too!It sure made for a dismal Christmas.

It has me worried about them getting everything back together right.

This just happened to me, couple days ago I jumped on it to merge onto the expressway. Few miles up the road the thing started to overheat, pulled over to take a look. Tried to add coolant and it just spewed out the front, just leaked all over. Had it towed to my weekend mechanics place and he said it was a blown gasket. Not sure if he's up to the task, he said if he gets some help he may be able to tackle it. I have an 08 Auto with 177k on it, anyone have any idea what this repair might cost me?

per Alldata - the labor time to replace the head gasket is 13 hours. now multiply that by the shops labor rate per hour. the head gasket is $55, plus valve cover gasket, coolant , oil & filter.

And may as well replace the timing package. Crate engine depot has a complete timing set including chain and all gaskets and whatnot. No sense not doing this since you will have to time it anyway

X2 for the above. With that many miles, you need to replace the timing components and I would definitley replace the water pump.

Yes on just about most DOHC engines even the imported belt drives you replace the pump while you have it off. It will be cheaper in the long run.
