Are the installation instructions for the vacuum pump fix for the brakes posted online anywhere? I would like to keep a copy to file with the rest of my HHR paperwork. I'd also like to review them and compare to what was installed on my HHR SS.

I just looked at the way the additional vacuum line was spliced in. Does anyone know if the fitting on the intake manifold has a check valve installed right at the manifold? On mine it looks like the vacuum line was cut right near the intake and a T fitting installed with a hose running down to the vacuum pump. I expect that the booster itself has a check valve installed but don't see one between the vacuum pump and intake. Without one there I expect that it pulls vacuum in that line which would cover the booster but also try pulling it from the intake too which seems odd. Shouldn't it be there for the booster only?

How is this installed on other HHR's?

I'd like to hear some feedback from the others that have also had the vacuum pump installed. So far the start up brake issue seems much better. The odd part is that I almost swear that the brakes feel better across the board and now work like I would have expected them too all along. Anyone waiting to get this done and living with the problem really ought to consider getting it taken care of.

Mine was the first one ChevyMgr did (2 months ago). The startup brake problem is completely gone. The brakes do work better than they ever did before. No question. Before the pedal was inconsistent. A couple of times I stepped on it I wasn't so sure it was going to stop in time to keep from hitting the car in front of me. This was in normal city (street) driving. The symptom was a hard pedal feel. Not travel.

I also installed a set of Hawk HPS pads. I highly recommend them. Not only do they work better, the rims don't have near the dust they did with stock pads. That and the E-brake holds solid. Never did with the stock pads.

My 2 cents worth.

For sure better at start up and I never really noticed it was better during normal driving as it was always fine then.

I am going to EBC Red pads in the future to cut down on the brake dust.

So is this issue part of a recall? If I take my SS in will I have to pay for this to be done? My SS is not under warranty.

This is not a recall just a TSB. How are you out of warranty?

It's a salvage SS I saved from going to a parts yard.
