We have now done 2 of these. Both customers pleased with results. Both installs took a little less than 3 hours, so the 3.2 hours of allowed time is fair.

 

Well this mechanic insists that he knows more about the fix then all the rest of us. We will see!

 

I've run into those types of Mechanics that 'Think' they know it all and can't be told otherwise. If I heard that I would take the HHR to another dealer and avoid that mechanic altogether.

Since the Vacuum pump was installed the brakes have been working better than I can ever remember. It should be installed on all of the SS automatics!

 

My parts have now been on order for over 2 months......

 

I believe it is on all new 09 Auto's from this point on.

My fix was done last week in Paramus NJ. It took a week to get the parts, they called me to bring it in and it took 2 days.

Works wonderfully, as the brakes work perfectly at startup. As noted before,
I work volunteer EMS and do not have time to wait for the vacuum to build up.
I have to start and go.

Now I can respond confidently to EMS calls without any issues.

I called the Service Manager at the dealership to express my happiness.
He was worried when he heard my name, as all I had done was complain
up until that point. He breathed a sigh of relief, as this time would have kicked
the lemon law into affect. He indicated it took his mechanic all more than a day to work through all the details.

I was hoping this was going to do it.
I'd rather keep my little black SS. Its too much fun to drive - even if my daughter calls it "Dad's hearse"

All the needed parts to do the brake fix on my SS arrived at dealer. I have an appointment for 05/19.

 

The brake fix was done on my SS today. Took about 3.5 hours. The toughest thing to do for the tech, was to put the top pump bolt in place. Poor tech had big hands..

Most curious thing about this brake fix is that the vacuum pump is actually attached to the oil pan...

 

As it should be as oil pans just don't hold oil anymore but also support the lower end on more and more engines. THey are now a structual piece and not just a cheap stamped piece of metal.

Check out the lower end of an ecotech sometime as it is very impressive.
