Clutch and Trans Blew up in less than 48 hours
Yup, you read that right. I as many people on here took advantae of the 0% financing and traded my PT Cruiser GT for a new HHR SS. I picked it up last Thursday morning before work. This last Saturday (less than 48 hours after I took delivery) on my way to work in third gear I heard a loud thump and my car popped out of gear. I pushed the clutch pedal in to put it back in gear and it went all the way to the floor and stayed there. The dealership paid to have it towed and gave me a car to drive.....a HHR Lt.....not the same car at all. Yesterday, on monday, they pulled the starter out and said pieces of the clutch just started falling out. They proceded to pull the whole trans out and got it out today. They said it was cracked and fluid had leeked into the clutch and that is what made it come apart as I was driving. A whole new trans and clutch was ordered today for it. Needless to say I am not really happy but am trying to keep a positive outlook as best I can. Anyone else heard of anything else like this happening? What do you guys think about all of this? I feel like GM should do something for me for my trouble. This is the first brand new car I have ever bought. Chime in and let me know!!

Sorry to hear about the the issue on your first new car, from what I can tell this is certainly abnormal. Talk to the dealer and see what they will do for you. Good luck and I hope all turns out as you expect.

Well they did give you a car to drive, sure not an SS but at least an HHR. They are going to fix it for you. Better to have this happen now rather than 100 miles out of warranty. Its a mass produced machine, every now and then a bad part or assembly is bound to rear its head.
What did you have in mind for your troubles? Maybe get them to take a payment or 2 off the term?

Normally the clutch would NOT be covered by the 100k warranty since it's a wearable part, but because the transmission case itself was fractured and the leaking fluid caused the malfunction, they have to replace everything.
Sorry to hear about that. Usually if something major is going to break in the powertrain immediately it's going to happen when they do the first start up testing at the plant. This was probably just one of those fluke things. Usually those manual transmissions are pretty tough.
See if they'll goodwill some accessories for you or something.

It sounds like to me that there were a few over zealous test drives that took place on the car. Maybe even sales people or mechanics. Maybe not...
The dealership should be your point of attack.
For all you know GM built your car perfect and it was ruined at the dealership. Either way, it is the dealership who has to deal with it.
I would throw a fit until you get free 5,000 mile and 10,000 mile services (if not more). I had to wait 8 hours for my free 5,000 service and they gave me a free 10,000 mile service. I would think you would get at least that. Maybe oil changes for the next 3 years or something like that...
...just my $.02
I would be angry as well. But rest assured that you purchased a great car!

Just my $.02 worth......Why through a fit..........thats the easiest way not to get anything......The dealership has done exactly what they were supposed to do..........If you like a little more out of the dealership.......ask nicely for some additional service coupons for you inconvenience.....they may give you even more......WW
