Computer code revisions for HHR SS

I'm curious about the code revisions for the multiple computer modules in the HHR. I have a 2008 Automatic and want to ensure that I have the latest known good version installed. I also have a few other questions and comments about what I've read about possible issues.

- Is there any way to check/display the version/date of the code currently installed? Does this require an ODB II scanner or can this be displayed on the information center somehow?

- Is there a list of versions with date that have come out and is there a log of what issues are resolved/fixed with the updates?

- If you've had an update applied have you noticed an increase or decrease in your mileage and/or performance? (assuming GM tweaked settings)

- Besides the "tuners" and taking the vehicle in for service are there other ways to get the firmware upgraded? Can OnStar push down code updates on the fly?

- Out of curiosity does anyone happen to know what the heart of the engine and body computer are? What type of CPU is it based on? (ARM, Motorola, Intel, etc)

In regards to the way the current code acts there seem to be two issues that should be clanged.

- The first is that when trying to start the car if it doesn't start right away and you turn the key back that it should IMMEDIATELY stop trying to start the engine. I've seen it do this once and then display reduced power. It was more than odd to hear the starter keep turning after I shut off the key. Someone needs to take the programmer of that particular parameter out back and explain how bad that particular idea is.

- I don't live in a Hilly area and usually don't use the engine as a brake as some people do. I've read that the auto may up-shift on it's own if the RPM of the motor goes too high. It seems to me that should probably be reviewed as most people wouldn't expect that behavior.

If you have any comments or other questions/issues about the onboard systems please add to this post.
