Drag Radials?

Has anybody put drag radials on the stock rims? I have been looking and the best/closest I can find to the stock tires(225/45/18) are the BF Goodrich drag radials, but they are 245/40/18. That means they'll be an inch to an inch and a half wider. They should be the same height, but I'm worried about the turning radius of the wheels with them. Any input would be great.

I would tend to want to use smaller wheels like a 15 or 16. The 18 isn't much of a sidewall for a drag launch. Also, BFG's tend to run wide across the board.

They measure out at 2 cm wider, about 1/2 an inch, and still the same overall diameter. I would run them, but I do not need them for a couple months when snow melts. Would make a big difference at the track. The best would be go to a smaller wheel to keep the rotating mass down and a taller side wall to aid in flexing, it would help your overall ET's.

I agree, I would rather put some Weld Draglites on the car and run them, but with the Brembos I can't quite do that. Until I figure out a 17" rim that will fit over them, I am stuck with the 18s.

Another thing to consider is the rather small clearance between the tire tread and the strut. A DR with 18 or so Lbs pressure is going to have a lot of tread ripple and will encircle an area larger than the static diameter of the tire. (I learned this the hard way with my snow tires.) You could make a very good case for a smaller overall diameter. Improved safety and cheaper than changing gears in the diff.

You should be fine man. Mickey Thompson also makes a drag radial this size.

Here's a thread by another member wanting drag radials...not sure if the Brembo clearance question has ever been answered with this 17" steelie or not?
