Well after putting about 100 miles on the HHR SS I have made some observations.

1. The car seems pretty quiet. I expected to hear more road noise and engine noise, but not.

2. I expected to hear the turbo whisteling, but no. Just a little noise when it is winding up.

3. I drove up to a parking space and slowly creeped up on the curb to see if the front ground effect would rub, yep. I was ticked. As I pulled away it sounded 10 times worse. I got out to look at it and there was no damage. As I placed my hand under the cowl I noticed that the turbo cooler is what rubbed.

4. The side ground effects, as they are not running boards. Get really dirty really fast. I think I am going to buy some mud flaps and customize them so they only stick out a bit.

5. I wasnt aware that the SS came with tire pressure monitoring system. It is cool, but this morning it shows one of my tires has 20 lbs and wants me to add air. I added air but no change. I think I may have a bad sensor.

I think that is it for now.

 

the one i just drove had a faulty sensor, and I noticed you could hear the injectors ticking. Does yours allow for full boost?

 

Is the turbo cooler the same as the intercooler? just curious? and how do you put it in performance mode?

 

My only question is where in Az are you so I can see

 

All 2008's have tire pressure sensors.

 

Not sure I havent really pushed it. I will have to look next time I take it out.

 

I have a 07 Solstice GXP and the ticking noise is normal. The injectors
take alot of power to open because they work against 2000 pounds of
fuel pressure. There is a regular electric pump in tank and a 3 lobe high
pressure pump that runs off one of the cams.
My GXP turbo runs 15 to 19 psi boost depending on temps.

So riddle me this? I have noticed that if I am doing 60mph on the freeway and I watch the pressure gauge it stays at about 0 or below. Is that normal?

 

yes it is, the engine still has vacuum when its not under boost.

 

also, I realise the ticking is because of the pressure/DI system. I was just surprised it was so audible
