Getting only 17mpg average with my SS ???

Recently bought a 2009 black HHR panel, only 25,000 miles on it.

Runs great, looks great and all that,,,, but the MPG has me a bit perplexed, my 2009 HHR LS panel that I sold got around 22-24 mpg.

I thought the SS models were suppose to get better MPG than 17 average (yes, I always run premium gas in my SS),,,,,And I'm not heavy on the the gas pedal at all

And yes,,, I did do a search on this forum but no results would come up.

Any feedback would be great on why Im only getting 17mpg.

Cheers
Davyo

I get 25 city and 31-32 highway all day long an do not drive for MPG.

Even when I do drive it harder even winter I still see 23-24 MPG city.

Not sure what is going on there.

Same here...average 28MPG at an average 38MPH. Something is wrong.

Thanks for the reply,,,,, yea,,,, I'm getting nothing close to your MPG.

I traded my 2009 LS white panel for my 2009 black SS panel a few months ago and the drop in MPG with the SS has been dramatic to say the least.

My SS has a certified GM warranty so if anything is wrong it will be up to GM to fix it.

It would be great to have an idea on what the problem could be so I could drive my SS into my GM dealership and have some knowledge of what the issue could be so my dealership does not try to BS me and claim there is no problem.

Cheers

Are you asking if it's clean or saying I should have it checked/cleaned ???

Thanks

Mass air flow. It's in the air intake path someplace (Not sure on the HHR or SS; someone here knows or Google something like "cleaning MAF on HHR") All it amounts to is a delicate wire, but if it's dirty, it'll cause all sots of issues, including mileage. Buy some MAF cleaner at any auto store or Wally-World and clean it (DON'T touch wire; just spray a couple squirts). Might not fix it, but worth a try.

compare your DIC instant MPG tyo what your boost gage is showing...if your puttering down the road steady state(cruzing) and your pulling boost, your low powered and the boost is up trying to compensate. If you barely touch the gas and boost flies up..its possible you have a leak somewhere..either way milage suffers..I can get 17 at 120 mph..but flat level road 30+.....

Yep even mine was 21-22 average before trifecta tune , now it's 25-26 average.

I got 16mph when I was data logging. Thats floor it and hold it till over 100.

To add to the datum, "enjoying" the car without thrashing it I get 26 average city/hwy and 30-33 highway at 70 MPH. 17 seems awfully low even if you are pounding on it.
