Violent weather passing through Atlanta Friday and Saturday dumped redicuously sized hail at my house and did a number to the HHR SS. Apparently the steel in the body panels is equivalent to a beer can My 1987 Chrysler Conquest Turbo sustained maybe 20 minor dings, but the HHR has on the order of 1000, no joke. Every metal body panel sustained damage, as did some of the plastic pieces (mirrors, grill, etc). Even the polished wheels have damage (looks like clearcoat is chipped).

 

Sorry to hear that that`s got to be heart breaking if it got hit that bad they my right it off.And that my be the way to go rather than have every panel replaced and a whole load of bondo on the roof.

 

I've been told by a couple people that totaled is a possibility (with 3000 miles). Here's some pics. Hard to see, but just look at the waviness in the refelections.

Sorry to hear of your misfortune. I got lucky and got my HHR in the garage just before the hail hit. My other cars sat outside, but they came through it relatively unscathed. One has a few dings in the hood and the other has a few on the roof, but nothing like your's. It looks like fixing your HHR would be a career for some dent wizard. Good luck with your insurance company.

Sorry to hear of your damage. I noticed just yesterday in the car wash, when the air dry blower was going full tilt on the roof, I heard it buckle, then pop back. I thought then that the metal must be pretty thin, or maybe I shoulda got the roof rails to toughen up the roof structure. :)

PS: I also noticed in the rental HHR I had that the rear hatch was kinda bent in at all 4 corners around the license plate cut out, making me sure that on my car I always close it from the bottom edge of the gate, and not the middle. Another sign of thin metal.

 

Wife's Trailblazer SS and my Supra Twin Turbo took the garage spots. I parked the HHR right up against the house since wind normally blows the other way and I thought it would be protected. I was WRONG I was actually out at my engine machine shop when the wife called for me to rush home before it hit. The area my shop is in received no impacts. I'm blaming my wife for the damage (as I have been doing for years).

 

I don't think you have told her that or else you would be in worst shape than your SS. Heard on the news that Atlanta got hit pretty good. When they did studies on golf balls thay found that smooth ones don't travel as far or fast as the ones with the dimples. You're SS may now be even faster. Have to look at the bright side

 

I'll just paint it white and have "Titleist" vinals made up

 

Sucks, but could have been worse. Hilton Head was getting baseball sized hail. That was one hell of a storm. And fast.
