Question HHR SS Gear whine

I have an 08 HHR SS with the 5 speed. It has about 1700 miles on it. At speeds of 30 mph or less I notice a gear whine which I feel is a little noisy. It's not the turbo as the wheel speed determines the speed of the whine. It does it in neutral and in gear with the clutch in. I took the service mgr. of the local dealership for a ride and he agreed it sounds a little excessive. He said there are no TSB's on it and he is waiting for the dealership to get in another 5 speed for comparison. Am I being too picky or has anyone else out there experienced this? Thanks for any input!! Tom S.

The getrag 5 speed is a little noisy, but I would compare it to another car if possible...

Im getting that in mine too, but I am used to it now. With a 100,000 mile warranty on the tranny it will be GM's problem if anything goes wrong. I actually kinda like the sound it makes, but I am a wierd person.

The 5-speed is a Saab tranny. It is known for it's gear whine. My 9-3 does the same thing, especially when it is cold.

Yes, the gear whine is 100% normal. I even read about it in automotive press articles before I got my car. It's only when you downshift into first before the car stops moving for me. I don't get it when my hand is off the shifter if it's in neutral.

Mine too seems a bit noisy at low parking lot speeds when I first got it. Now at 8600 miles I no longer hear it, it must have broken in to some degree. Give it some time.

No, more like the old Saab trans....

Which, of course, is what the F35 is.
