Hid's from ebay

Yes, I would like to install hid's on my 08 ss. How do you guys feel about just the bulbs that claim to give you the 'superwhite bluish hid look' that are plug and play without all the cost versus the real hid conversion kits? I would like to go just the bulb way- being I am not mechanically inclined nor can I afford the expensive way. Thanks for your answers in advance.

Blue tinted bulbs are pretty much a scam, including those from well known manufacturers. True HID's are not blue, but rather have a tendency to throw a blue spike due to diffraction from the cutoff shield in typical projector fixtures.

In an effort to have an "exotic" look, blue tinted bulbs have to raise the wattage to overcome the light loss due to the tint. This shortens filament life and also tends to deteriorate the sockets rapidly. Moreover, many people have a poor pupil response to blue light, which makes them particularly susceptible to dangerous blinding glare from hopped up fake HID's.

If you want to look like an oem hid car theen......If the kit has just bulbs, ballasts, and a wiring harness...stay away. If the saids "plug n play" stay away.

If you don't mind blinding a few shorter drivers, looking like your highs are on 24/7 and having poor light focus, then go for it.

Sucks to be us, but a projector retrofit is the only true hid solution

I have HID's in my 06'. Never been flashed by anyone and I get many compliments. I bought the plug-n-play kit off ebay for about 200$ 2 years ago when I bought my car. http://stores.ebay.com/H-I-D-Xenon-Kits.

I like em as long as they are not behind me :)
im not hating on plug in and play systems. It's just that the are only 30-50% as nice as "complete" systems. You won't even find plug in and play systems on hyundais and daewoos... :)

You can "mod" plug in and play systems to keep from blinding people ...or just point your headlamps down a little, that helps.
However it is a very efficient, quick, and dirt cheap way to get mor light out in front of your hhr. Don't be suprised if low roof height vehicles suddendly decide riding behind you is preferable to being blinded.
To each their own.
