From the owners manual:

After changing the engine oil, the system must be reset as follows:

1. Turn the ignition to RUN, with the engine off.
2. Press the information and reset buttons on the DIC at the same time to enter the personalization menu.
3. Press the information button to scroll through the available personalization menu modes until the DIC display shows OIL-LIFE RESET.
4. Press and hold the reset button until the DIC display shows ACKNOWLEDGED. This will tell you the system has been reset.
5. Turn the key to LOCK.

Think it's : Key on/gas pedal depressed to the floor (full/quick motion)3 times then the DIC will prob say "oil life reset" a lil after.

Think that is the standard way to do it on most GM's(if you don't have a full-on DIC )

This also works

Press and hold the reset and information buttons for about 3 seconds until the "oil life reset" appears in the display ...release the buttons and then press the reset button one more time and "acknowledged" will appear in the display and your done

this is all done with engine off / ignition on position

Pushing the gas pedal method does not work on the SS.

Subject: Unable to Reset the Engine Oil Life System Using the Accelerator Pedal

Models: 2008-2009 Chevrolet HHR SS With Engine RPO LNF ONLY
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:
A technician may report that the Engine Oil Life (EOL) will not reset.

Recommendation/Instructions:
Engineering has determined that the ECM for the 2008-09 HHR SS does not support the use of the accelerator pedal for the Engine Oil Life System reset procedure. This is listed incorrectly in eSI and the Owners Manuals of this vehicle; and is in the process of being changed.

Technicians should be advised to use the DIC procedure or Tech2 to perform the EOL reset.

Do as Sindy says, that is the way you are supposed to do it, works everytime, go figure. Or read the manual. todd (Uma)
