I have never tried to swap out from a different model before. I know on some vehicles the vin number has to Match the car or a trouble code will pop up.

I have swapped out a 04 sunfire cluster recently and all worked well the cluster automatically pulled the milage from other modules and displayed the correct mileage for the car.

Is the mileage stored in the cluster or the computer (BCM/ECM)?

From what I've read, it's not stored in the cluster. I believe the cluster is just a read out screen without storage or memory capacity.

BCM would be my thought, put not exactly sure.

I'm believe the memory is in the bcm. My son install a cluster in his cobalt and was thinking it would read the low mileage from the car he removed it from.

He was kinda bummed when he turned the key and his car was still high mileage.
