Motor Noise
Hi Everyone, I'm new to this forum. My question is, at start-up (or after sitting for 4 hours or more) the engine makes a noise that sound like a heat shield rattle or a alt bearing going out. It only last maybe 2 minutes, then goes away. I have taken it to 2 different dealers, and they both told me, "That's Just How They Sounds" when you first start them! Anyone else having this Issue? Thanks

First off...
Second, is it an SS?
If so, it's probably the high-pressure fuel pump under the hood. And, they pretty much DO all do that...
It sounds clattery for a couple of minutes, and then disappears. It's a mechanical pump, and is only used on the Direct-Injected cars. If it's not an SS, then this doesn't apply.

Welcome to the site.
I have a 2010 SS. Does the same thing. Seems to be normal.
I agree with Blue SS about the HPFP making the noise. If you'll watch the fuel pressure gauge on the RPD display, you'll notice the noise dies down as the fuel pressure settles down. Usually somewhere in the 400-600 psi range if I remember correctly.
Cold start up fuel pressure can be in the 1800-2200 psi range. I would make a little noise too if I was working that hard.
