My "Roll-Your-Own" Performance Display
I got myself a netbook computer, with a 1024x600 display, 10.1"
Then I got a bluetooth elm327 OBD-II dongle and ScanXL.
I've been playing around makeing different gauges and came up with a couple that are reasonable. Yesterday I logged my commute home and replayed part of the data to show here.
This is a snapshot, and here is a LINK to a <2min video of it.
(reduced resolution on both)

Any update on the ELM327 platform? After a month's research (both here and on the rest of the web), I am still undecided on what is best for me to purchase. My needs are CANOBD2, portability between vehicles, live data stream recording/graphing at rest or in motion, instant pass/fail notification re: emissions testing, updatability for the programming, and CHEAP. ABS data would be nice, but not absolutely required. Made in USA a definite plus. I like a few stand alone scanners, under $200, but one (Actron) is said to have update problems. Others have some of the above features, but not all, and all seem to be made offshore or in you-know-where. If I'm to spend a coupla bills on something, I want reliable service. Or, on the other hand, buy cheaper, and lose less when it fails. But, back to the ELM327 bluetooth / PC program angle. Cost wise, data wise, this looks like a win/win situation to me. Can anybody report their LONG TERM evaluation of it, vis a vis the stand alone scanners of today?

I have been using this for awhile now. Whne the wife got an I-Pad for x-mas, we tried hooking it up, no go. Currently running from a HP Elitebook Mobile Workstation, and I-Phone via Bluetooth(the I-phone works by tapping into the comp, not the car). Pretty cool. My wife does the data-logging from the sidelines, at the track. but it only works sometimes. Blue-tooth is very limited, 15-20ft on a good day.
