Hello all! I just traded in my 2006 Cobalt SS/NA for a brand new shiny Victory Red HHR SS A/T. I got the 0% financing from GM so i was just barely able to afford while being upside down on my other vehicle.

Well anyway I got the A/T so my wife and I could both drive it. However I wasn't aware that the A/T meant that there was a reduction in power! That kinda got me mad at first because I thought I had a 260HP car which turned out to be a 235HP car. From one review that I read the HP reduction was done because the 4 speed A/T couldn't handle much more HP than that. Does anyone know if the tranny can be beefed up in some way to hold more power so that the car can take full advantage of the engine?

I don't know the answer to your question because I like my auto and it has all the power I need, but welcome to the HHR family! I'm sure someone here will have the answer for you. These HHR drivers seem to be very knowledgeable. In any case, you will love the SS!

I have the auto, and all I see is jaws dropping in my rear-view mirror.

 

235 hp in a 4 banger turbo still is nothing to sneeze at. Enjoy your new HHR.

We need an automatic and a stick to run head to head to really find the answer, Horsepower on paper is one thing, on the street or track is another........

Btw, It Is Limited To 235 Hp In 1st & 2nd Gear Only, After That Its 250 Horses. But Overall, Its Still Down On Torque Compared To The Stick.

 

All the mag test that I know of mentioned a very noticable difference in power of the ones they tested auto/stick. Thats even the ones testing actual production models, as in the Detroit News test in Feb.
