New Member Gas mileage question, please

I am thinking about an SS and can find mainly automatics in the northern VA area. I was looking for guidance and experience from you all on what to expect in performance sacrifice auto to stick and what are people getting for mileage for both. Thanks for the input.

Here is another thread about the same subject
https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/2-0l-performance-tech-46/ss-gas-milage-14708/

But I have had my HHR SS (AUTO) for a few weeks now and only have about a 1000 miles on it but I am averaging 23.4 MPG and it has all been city driving back and forth to work. The average MPG has been climbing up since day one and from what I can tell it isn't done yet. Dealership said that is part of the break in period but I think getting over 23MPG City is perty darn good seeing as my last vehicle only got about 17MPG Average.

Well first let me say welcome to the site. Second, I have a 5spd and do mostly back roads driving, very little highway and only 10 stop signs on my round trip between home and work. Right now I am getting 27.8 MPG, that's taking it easy mostly, 60mph and not launching it hard. I do have a couple of sprints to 80 on this tank though, so I don't exactly baby it all the time either.

I have an auto. Got it two weeks ago and the first tank was 29mpg probably 70/30 highway/city driving. And just checked my second tank and got a little over 25mpg but was getting on it a little more and on a twisty coastal highway up north.

I just got mine, and during two commutes I was watching the instantaneous mileage read-out. It's 35 miles each way, almost all interstate & freeway. 65mph cruise control It reads (very consistantly) 37mpg on the flat, 24-25 upgrades, and 45-50 downgrades. Looks promising from my '93 ranger 4x4 getting an avg 18mpg.
